South Africa's Centurion (AP) — In the first test, South Africa crushed India over three days, winning by an innings and thirty-two runs on Thursday.
With Burger's explosion, Rabada (2-32) and Jansen (3-36) taking two and three wickets respectively, India was bowled out for a pitiful 131 runs in their second innings. With 76, only Virat Kohli provided a meaningful challenge.
Nandre Burger, a rookie left-arm pacer, took 4-33 and finished with a match total of 7-83.
In the first game of the two-match series, South Africa led 1-0.
After resuming on 256-5, Dean Elgar long 185 runs performance helped the Proteas conclude their opening innings on 408. In their first innings, India had been bowled out for just 245 runs.
Player of the match went to Elgar, who was playing his final Centurion test after declaring his retirement prior to the series.
It was a somewhat unique knock. Elgar stated, "I attempted to play late and concentrate on the ball, playing it nice and straight. "It was good of us to grab 20 wickets. Burger demonstrated why he has been a bright spot for South African cricket, and KG (Rabada) was outstanding.
“It's tough to defeat the Indian team, but we played very well.”
India's second innings got off to the worst conceivable start and never recovered, trailing by 163 runs.
Jaiswal, the opener, was dismissed at slip on the opening ball, but he didn't last long. Burger caught him behind off a rising delivery for five runs off of eighteen balls.
Rabada had already gotten past Sharma's defence in the third over, and he was bowled for after eight-ball duck.
Subhman gill played some beautiful short and 39 runs but he was bowled playing across the line against burger.
Along with Kohli, Gill had scored 39 runs for the third wicket. Nevertheless, it was an uncomfortable alliance, and India lost 62–3.
As soon as play resumed, Jansen bowled Shreyas Iyer for six, playing across the line once more. The torrent of wickets continued.
Burger then expeditiously completed the lower order. Lokesh Rahul, the centurion of the first innings, was caught at second slip. On the first ball he faced, Ravichandran Ashwin hung out his bat and caught a golden duck at gully.
After a weak batting performance, India were bowled out in just 34 overs in less than two sessions.
This came after South Africa's first post-lunch innings saw only 16 runs scored. Temba Bavuma, the captain, did not bat due to a hamstring strain problem.
With two quick wickets from Jasprit Bumrah to finish off the tail, Jansen was left stranded at 84 not out. The pacer's 4-69 total rounded out an otherwise lackluster Indian bowling performance.
During the morning session, marco Jansen and dean Elgar score 111 runs for the sixth wicket by exploiting India's weak bowling.
Elgar gloved one down leg side off Thakur to be removed in the 95th over. In his knock, he hit 28 fours.
With a career-high score, Jansen had reached his second half-century in a test match off 70 balls.
